Tokyo stocks opened lower Monday as Wall Street was pressured at the end of last week by a new investigation concerning Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, with lackluster industrial production data here adding to a lackluster market mood.

As of 9:15 a.m., the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average dropped 54.81 points, or 0.31 percent, from Friday to 17,391.60.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, lost 2.86 points, or 0.21 percent, to 1,389.55.

Notable issues that lost ground early on comprised mining, glass and ceramic product and rubber product-linked stocks. Endit
