Tokyo stocks advanced Friday morning as the yen's retreat against the U.S. dollar underpinned an upbeat market mood following hopes the U.S. Federal reserve will hike its rates in December, with Britain's GDP data also adding support.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 90.10 points, or 0.52 percent, from Thursday to 17,426.52.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, gained 6.22 points, or 0.45 percent, to 1,388.23.
