BMW ordered in S.Korea to recall 21,000 cars for various defects

German luxury carmaker BMW was ordered by South Korea's transport ministry to recall more than 21,000 vehicles of 26 models for various defects, the ministry said on Friday.

BMW Korea, a local importer and distributor of the German cars, will recall 20,957 vehicles of 17 models, including 520d produced between Dec. 11, 2006 and June 30, 2011 for defective connectors for fuel pump, according to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport.

Also subject to the recall would be 124 vehicles of five models, including X3 xDrive20d that were manufactured between May 13, 2014 and June 19, 2014 for faulty airbags in the driver's seat.

The company will recall 63 cars of two models, including M5, that were made between Sept. 5, 2014 and Dec. 5, 2014 for poor welding of propeller shaft, while four more cars of M3 and M4 which were produced between March 12, 2014 and June 27, 2014 will be recalled for a fault in rear wheel axle.

Hyundai Motor, the country's largest automaker, was also ordered by the transport ministry to recall 21,021 Sonata LF sedans, which were produced between March 7, 2014 and Aug. 13, 2015, for faulty panorama sunroofs that could be detached for a loose attachment.

An additional 2,959 Sonata LF Hybrid cars that were manufactured between Dec. 3, 2014 and Aug. 18, 2015 will be recalled for the faulty sunroof. Endit
