Roundup: HK stocks close 0.83 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Thursday, down 193 points or 0.83 percent to 23,132.35 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,002.53 and 23,352.62. Turnover totaled 58.74 billion HK dollars (about 7.58 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 89.94 points, or 0.93 percent, to close at 9,608.91.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged down 0.17 percent to close at 58.7 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX shrank 0.39 percent to end at 205.6 HK dollars.

As for other heavyweights, China Mobile dropped 1 percent to 89.1 HK dollars, Tencent retreated 0.75 percent to 210.6 HK dollars. Local airline Cathay Pacific moved down 1.92 percent to 10.2 HK dollars.

CKH Holdings, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, lost 1.08 percent to 96.25 HK dollars.

Most mainland-based financial stocks closed lower. Bank of China shrank 1.14 percent to 3.48 HK dollars. Bank of Communications dropped 1.51 percent to 5.87 HK dollars. China Construction Bank sunk 0.87 percent to 5.67 HK dollars. ICBC dropped 0.64 percent to 4.69 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, PetroChina slumped 1.99 percent to 5.41 HK dollars. CNOOC slumped 2.67 percent to 10.2 HK dollars. Sinopec shrank 1.39 percent to 5.68 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.75 HK dollars) Endit
