Slovenian Matej Mohoric from Lampre-Merida obtained his first victory timing 5:21:35 on the sixth stage of Tour of Hainan 2016, while Alexey Lutsenko of Astana wore jersey for the first time after the match.
The sixth stage stretched from Changjiang to Wuzhishan, covering a total distance of 197.2 kilometers with two KOM CAT.1 and two intermediate sprints.
As the first mountain stage as far, the climbers from all teams finally earned a central place in this annual tournament, that six riders took the lead in front of the peloton only a few minutes into the match. And in the final stretch of the ride, the 3-man breakaway including Mohoric and Lutsenko retained an edge to pass the finish line ahead of the peloton.
Though losing to Mohoric in the stage contention, the owner of polka-dot jersey, Alexey Lutsenko, took the overall leader's yellow jersey from Max Walscheid of Team Giant-Alpecin who still keeps the green jersey after the match.
Lutsenko said, "I am very happy to get the yellowy jersey, but it is a pity to lose the stage champion, although my teammates helped me a lot to maintain a leading position. Hope I could do much better in the following rides."
This year's Tour of Hainan will last nine days, and the next stage will be from Wuzhishan to Sanya, one famous tourist city of China, covering a total distance of 127.4 kilometers. Endit
