NBA registers record number of players from outside U.S.

The 2016-17 NBA season will see a record 113 players from outside the United States as its 71st campaign opens on Tuesday.

In all, a record 41 countries and regions are represented on NBA rosters. There are 61 European players and 14 African players in the league.

China lost its representation in the NBA after former Dallas Mavericks player Yi Jianlian asked the Los Angeles Lakers to waive him on Monday.

Yi said he wanted to look elsewhere for opportunities, and that one possibility would be returning to China. Enditem
