Finnish President Sauli Niinisto arrived in Iran's capital Tehran on Tuesday for comprehensive talks including promotion of bilateral relations, official IRNA news agency reported.

The official visit by Niinisto takes place at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart President Hassan Rouhani.

A high-profile delegation, including several Finnish trade and economic companies as well as political officials, are accompanying Niinisto in his two-day visit to Tehran.

Finnish Ambassador to Tehran Harri Kamarainen told Tehran Times daily that "the visit marks a new beginning in relations between Finland and Iran on the highest political level and we are therefore very much forward-looking to the discussions in Tehran."

Niinisto will meet with senior Iranian officials to discuss issues of mutual interest, bilateral relations, boosting trade and economic relations as well as regional issues. Endit
