Roundup: HK stocks close 0.17 pct lower

Hong Kong stocks closed lower on Tuesday, down 39 points, or 0.17 percent, to 23,565.11 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,506.64 and 23,631.34. Turnover totaled 55.47 billion HK dollars (about 7.15 billion U.S. dollars).

The Hang Seng China Enterprises Index dropped 15.2 points, or 0.15 percent, to close at 9,837.7.

Banking giant HSBC, which accounts for the largest weighting of the Hang Seng Index, edged down 0.25 percent to close at 59.25 HK dollars. Local bourse operator HKEX climbed 0.29 percent to end at 208.6 HK dollars.

As for other heavyweights, China Mobile dropped 0.44 percent to 90.5 HK dollars, Tencent retreated 0.28 percent to 214.8 HK dollars. Local airline Cathay Pacific moved down 0.38 percent to 10.5 HK dollars.

CKH Holdings, a powerful HK-based developer controlled by billionaire Li Ka-shing, lost 0.46 percent to 98.5 HK dollars.

Most mainland-based financial stocks closed lower. Bank of China shrank 0.28 percent to 3.57 HK dollars. Bank of Communications remained flat at 6 HK dollars. China Construction Bank sunk 0.17 percent to 5.82 HK dollars. ICBC dropped 0.42 percent to 4.79 HK dollars.

As for energy stocks, PetroChina dipped 0.88 percent to 5.64 HK dollars. CNOOC remained flat at 10.7 HK dollars. Sinopec edged down 0.68 percent to 5.89 HK dollars. (1 U.S. dollar equals 7.76 HK dollars) Endit
