1st LD-Writethru: Chinese shares barely budge on Thursday

Chinese stocks barely moved on Thursday as the market digested the implications of a slew of new economic data released this week.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index fell 0.01 percent to close at 3,084.46 points. The smaller Shenzhen index closed 0.25 percent higher at 10,784.33 points.

The ChiNext Index, which tracks China's Nasdaq-style enterprises, gained 0.38 percent to close at 2,193.26 points.

Turnover hit 559.45 billion yuan (around 83.13 billion U.S. dollars), down from 574.63 billion yuan the previous day.

Investors were taking stock of fresh data from the National Bureau of Statistics, which showed the Chinese economy had stabilized on the back of government spending and a hot housing market.

The country's gross domestic product expanded 6.7 percent in the third quarter, unchanged from the second quarter. Private investment remained subdued, with government spending and property strong.

Environmental shares rose across the board. Anhui Guozhen Environment Protection Technology. jumped by the 10-percent daily limit to 26.38 yuan.

Motorbike producers were among the major losers. China Jialing, a leading motorbike manufacturer, dipped 4.36 percent to 8.78 yuan. Endi
