At least 11 people, all civilians, sustained injuries as a blast hit a passenger vehicle in Afghanistan's eastern Nangarhar Province on Thursday, a local official said.

"A blast that hit a vehicle in Batikot district today morning injuring 11 persons, all civilians," the official told Xinhua, on condition of anonymity.

Meantime, spokesman for Nangarhar provincial government Attaullah Khogiani in talks with Xinhua confirmed the incident, saying a gas cylinder accidentally exploded inside a car in the bazaar of Batikot district. Some of the wounded are in critical condition.

He said an investigation has been initiated into the case.
