PLO slams Israel's accession to UN women organization

A senior official with Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) slammed on Wednesday Israel's joining to the United Nations Women organization.

Hanan Ashrawi, a senior member of the PLO executive committee, said in a press statement that Israel's accession to UN Women "is a denial to Palestinian women suffering and to the persecution they face."

She unveiled that an agreement had been recently reached between the Israeli ambassador to the UN, Danny Danon, and officials of the UN for women, adding that "the agreement was reached while women are suffering a lot."

"The Israeli occupation authorities practice criminal measures against Palestinian women. Women are the victims of the Israeli wars and the Israeli siege and also the victim of the racist and radical Israeli policies," said Ashrawi.

She went on saying that the move "contradicts with the principles of the UN charter because Israel is the current occupying power and violates on daily basis the rights of the Palestinian women."

The PLO official called on the UN to put an end to the violence that is practiced against women in the Palestinian territories, end discrimination and ensure security and peace for them. Endit
