Kenyan guard killed in border region in fight with Al-Shabaab

A Kenyan night guard was killed during a shootout between the police and Al-Shabaab militants in Mandera Country near the Somali border on Monday night.

Mandera County Commissioner Fredrick Shisia said on Tuesday that the police officers who were driving through the town were stopped by the gunmen who were disguised as women in veils.

Shisia said the incident which took place some few minutes to midnight involved three men to stop a governor's chase car on patrol in Mandera town along the Somali border.

Residents said the police were patrolling the town when they met the militants and a shootout ensued leaving one of the guards dead.

The gunmen disappeared into Somalia barely two kilometers from the scene of Monday night incident after the fierce fire exchange. Police are yet to make any arrest following the incident. Endit
