Nigeria sacks 17 erring customs officers

Xinhua, October 17, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Nigerian government said Sunday it dismissed 17 junior customs officers for drug addiction, certificate forgery, theft and absenteeism between January to September this year.

Spokesperson for the Nigeria Customs Service Wale Adeniyi said in a statement reaching Xinhua that two other officers also had their appointments terminated for illegally absenting themselves from duty, while one officer was retired for drug addiction.

He said investigations into offences committed by the officers in the senior category are being concluded, noting that officers found guilty are expected to face similar stiff penalties. Endit
