Lao leaders send condolences over passing of Thai king

Lao leaders have sent messages of condolences to Thailand's Queen and their Thai counterparts sharing the mourning over the passing of Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

Lao President Bounnhang Vorachit sent his message to Thai Queen Sirikit, Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith sent his message to his Thai counterpart Prayuth Chan-ocha, while Lao Minister of Foreign Affairs Saleumxay Kommasith sent his message to Thai counterpart Don Pramudwinai.

Lao President Bounnhang's message reads "I have learned with profound sadness of the passing away of His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej of the Kingdom of Thailand in the afternoon of Oct. 13, 2016. His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej was a King with great sacrifice and virtue who was devoted to the nation and the Thai people over the 70-year reign of His Majesty. His Majesty was deeply revered by the Thai people," cited local online Vientiane Times on Friday.

"His Majesty played an active role in improving and strengthening the friendly relations and cooperation between the Lao People's Democratic Republic and the Kingdom of Thailand over the years. The passing of His Majesty is a great loss for the Thai people."

For the Lao people, President Bounnhang said, the passing away of His Majesty was the loss of a relative and friend who had great virtue contributing significantly to establishing and strengthening the good friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries and the two peoples.

"On behalf of the people of the Lao People's Democratic Republic and on my own behalf, I would like to express my deepest condolences and share this moment of sadness to Her Majesty the Queen, the Crown Prince and members of the Royal families and the Thai people," President Bounnhang said in his message.
