Nigeria intercepts suspected cocaine consignment at sea port

Xinhua, October 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Authorities of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Thursday said it intercepted a consignment of eight bags containing substances suspected to be cocaine at the Lagos Tin-Can Island Port.

The suspected substances were concealed and un-manifested inside a container with cement raw materials, Yusuf Bashar, a Customs Area Comptroller at the port, told reporters.

The container is originated from New Zealand but the shipment point is from Spain, Bashar added.

Yashim Danladi, Head of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency at the port, said the substances were suspected to be cocaine based on preliminary test on the consignment.

Danladi added that the concealed substances would go through other laboratory tests to further confirm the contents. Endit
