Myanmar's FM to visit India from Oct 17 to 19

Xinhua, October 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Myanmar's State Counsellor and Foreign Minister Aung San Suu Kyi will visit India from October 17 to 19.

"The state counsellor will be accompanied by several key ministers and senior officials," the Indian External Affairs Ministry said in a statement Wednesday.

It added "During her visit, the state counsellor will call on President Pranab Mukherjee and have meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj."

According to the ministry, Suu Kyi's visit will provide an opportunity for the two sides to discuss issues of mutual interest and seek ways to further strengthen the close and friendly ties.

This will be first official visit of Suu Kyi to India since her National League for Democracy party came to power in Myanmar this year. She had done her higher studies in the Indian capital. Endit
