Minimum wage in Slovakia to increase in 2017

Xinhua, October 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Slovak government on Wednesday approved the minimum wage hike from 405 euros (about 446 U.S. dollars) to 435 euros per month at government session.

Social partners were repeatedly negotiating the minimum wage hike, but they didn't come to an agreement. Consequently, the Slovak Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Ministry was responsible for suggesting the amount.

"Nevertheless, it'll have a positive impact on individuals receiving the minimum wage, as well as on parents, if one of them is employed. It's important to constantly push the minimum wage further up so that it's worth working in Slovakia," stressed Slovak Labor Minister Jan Richter.

The minimum wage in Slovakia will reach 52 percent of the average monthly salary in 2017. This year it's 51 percent. (1 euro = 1.10 U.S. dollars) Endit
