Egypt, EU ink 6 grant agreements worth 150 million USD

Xinhua, October 12, 2016 Adjust font size:

Egypt and the European Union on Tuesday signed six grant agreements worth 150 million U.S. dollars in support of Egypt's socio-economic development, official news agency MENA reported.

The agreement was signed by Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation Sahar Nasr and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiation Johannes Hahn, benefiting projects in the field of renewable energy, sanitary drainage and more.

It also focuses on improving the living conditions of impoverished areas and provision of citizen rights.

Hahn started Tuesday a two-day visit to Egypt to hold talks over the EU-Egypt partnership on priority fields for cooperation, such as socio-economic development, jobs, migration, regional affairs and citizen rights, MENA said.

Nasr said in statements that one of the agreements is about establishing a wind power plant in the Gulf of Suez to boost clean energy in Egypt. The plant at a cost of about 33 million dollars will have a capacity of 200 megawatts. Endit
