Xinhua, October 10, 2016 Adjust font size:

Local authorities in Myanmar's westernmost region on Sunday imposed curfew after three border posts were separately attacked, official media reported Monday.

Dozens of armed men attacked three border posts with Bangladesh in Rakhine state Saturday midnight, killing nine policemen and injuring five, with one still missing, the reports said.

Local General Administration Department ordered the curfew on the whole region after the attack at the Kyikanpyi Border Post Headquarters in Maungtaw township, Kotankauk Outpost in Rathedaung township and Ngakhuya Office.

The dusk-to-dawn curfew is set up from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. local time, prohibiting any assembly of five and more people.

A total of 390 schools in Buthee Taung and Maungtaw townships in the district were closed on Monday and teachers have been brought to be safe.

A total of 51 assorted arms, 10,140 rounds of ammunition, one bayonet and 28 cartridges of bullets were taken by the armed men in the three attacks.

Eight armed men were killed with two being captured alive, said Police Chief Maj-Gen Zaw Win.

Former President U Thein Sein lifted a nearly four-year curfew in conflict areas of Rakhine state in late March this year. Endit
