Forum to open in Kenya to seek fund for Africa's film sector

More than 200 representatives from the film industry and financial sector are due to meet in Nairobi next week to discuss ways to promote the development of the film sector in Africa through commercial funding.

The two-day Africa Film Finance Summit will kick off on Oct. 13.

Jane Murago-Munene, executive director of the Pan-African Federation of Filmmakers, said Thursday the forum's goal was to help mobilize 200 million U.S. dollars in the following two years and catalyze growth of commercial funding for Africa's audiovisual and cinema sector.

"The funding seeks to enhance the quality and quantity of films, documentaries and other forms of audiovisual productions," Murago-Munene said in Nairobi.

The delegates will include filmmakers, scriptwriters, producers, studio owners, distributors, bankers and insurance executives.

The forum is expected to bring about commercial film funding partnerships. It will also be part of the Ambika Afrika Safari Film Festival scheduled for Oct. 12-19 in Nairobi. Endit
