S. African president appoints new Public Protector

Xinhua, October 7, 2016 Adjust font size:

South African President Jacob Zuma on Thursday appointed Advocate Busisiwe Joyce Mkhwebane as the Public Protector for a period of seven years with effect from Oct. 15 this year.

Mkhwebane will replace outgoing Thuli Madonsela.

Zuma expressed thanks to Madonsela for her services and wished Mkhwebane all the best in the execution of her new responsibilities.

South Africa's National Assembly last month endorsed Mkhwebane as the new Public Protector to succeed Madonsela, whose seven-year non-renewable term expires in October.

Being independent of the government, the Public Protector is tasked with the investigation of misconduct in any state affairs and all spheres of government, including that of public administration in the country. Enditem
