Urgent: UN chief Ban says likely successor, former Portuguese PM Guterres as "super choice"

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said here on Thursday that he regarded his likely successor, former Portuguese prime minister Antonio Guterres, as a "super choice."

Guterres was unanimously selected by the UN Security Council on Wednesday as the next UN secretary-general.

The Security Council's decision will be sent, following the formal approval on Thursday, to the 193-member General Assembly for final formal approval. Endit
