King Abdullah II of Jordan on Monday issued orders for restructuring the Jordanian army, the state-run Petra new agency reported.

In a letter to the newly appointed Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mahmoud Freihat, the King called for restructuring the army to cope with regional challenges due to troubled conditions in the region and terrorism.

"We should take the lead in the fight against the outlaws and terrorists who tarnish the image of our religion and threaten the future of our generations and peace and stability across the world," the King said.

He also called for development and upgrade of armed forces and equipment, and needs to enhance the capabilities of border guards. Endit
