Germany will provide Jordan with 273 million euros in aid in 2016, the state-run Petra news agency reported.

Jordan's Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury said the aid will help Jordan meet rising pressure on various sectors imposed by Syrian refugees.

Of the total amount, 70 million euros will be in soft loans, while the rest will be in grants.

The minister said the aid will finance projects in fields of education, electricity, energy, water and infrastructure.

Jordan is home to 1.4 million Syrian refugee, representing 20 percent of the population.

Total volume of aid by Germany from 2012-2015 reached 395 million euros.

Jordan has been calling for increased aid by the international community to reduce pressure on the country and hosting communities. Endit
