EU to enhance support for Tunisia

Xinhua, September 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

The European Union(EU) on Thursday adopted a Joint Communication on relations with Tunisia, reaffirming to enhance partnership and provide more support for Tunisia.

According to a European Commission press release, the Joint Communication sets out a number of measures that the EU could take to enhance its support for Tunisia in addressing critical challenges and promoting stability, socio-economic development and security in the country.

This comes in addition to a planned financial support of up to 300 million euros (336.23 million U.S. dollars) for 2017.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini said: "Tunisia is confronted by many challenges in what is a challenging region. The EU needs to respond even better to Tunisia's transition."

"We are doing this with our Joint Communication that includes very concrete actions that will better accompany Tunisians and Tunisia in the implementation of the reforms they have set themselves," she said.

The Joint Communication will be presented to the European Council and European Parliament. Endit
