Boko Haram spy arrested in Nigeria: army spokesman

Xinhua, September 29, 2016 Adjust font size:

A secret agent of the terror group Boko Haram has been arrested by troops in the northeast region of Nigeria, an army spokesman told Xinhua on Thursday.

Col. Sani Usman, spokesman of the Nigerian army, said the secret agent was arrested on Wednesday at a local market in the northeastern state of Borno.

The spy has been identified as Majid Umar, he said.

According to Usman, the Boko Haram agent was arrested with three other suspects who confessed to being part of logistics elements of the terror group.

"They assist in selling cows for the terror group. They said the proceeds are remitted to the terrorists to fund their nefarious activities," the army spokesman said.

Nigeria's northeast region has been a stronghold of the extremist group Boko Haram. In past months, the Nigerian government has launched several military operations to eliminate the terrorist threat. Endit
