Three people suspected of telecom and cyber fraud have turned themselves in after being named in a police warrant.
The Ministry of Public Security (MPS) on Monday issued a warrant for 10 fugitives implicated in telecom and cyber fraud. As of Wednesday, three had surrendered to police, according to the ministry.
The three suspects included Deng Zhenchuan, who is suspected of cheating a victim out of five million yuan (750,000 U.S. dollars) and money laundering for telecom and cyber fraud criminal rings involving about 110 million yuan.
Deng Chunping is suspected of organizing others in telecom fraud schemes that involved 14 million yuan.
The third suspect, Huang Yexiong, is implicated in multiple fraud cases involving 2.9 million yuan.
Telecom and cyber fraud made headlines across China last month when Xu Yuyu, 18, from Shandong Province, died of cardiac arrest after losing her tuition money to a telecom scammer.
The police have appealed to the public to provide information about telecom fraud with the promise of rewards. Endit
