Indonesia outlines strategy for Paralympics in Japan

Xinhua, September 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

The Indonesian government has put a priority in weightlifting, table tennis, track and field, and swimming at the Paralympics in Tokyo 2020, sport minister said here on Thursday.

Indonesian Youth and Sport Minister Imam Nahrawi said he was optimistic that the country's athletes will record a better achievement at the upcoming international sport event compared with that at the Rio Paralympics.

Minister Nahrawi said that the athletes' performances improved in Rio.

"Our target in Tokyo is to improve our ranking and the level of medals we have got," Nahrawi said at the State Palace.

President Joko Widodo asked the ministry to start preparation for the Paralympics as soon as possible, according to Nahrawi.

"The president said that all must be well prepared for the Paralympics, including the management and recruitment of athletes," he added.

Indonesia, which sent nine athletes to Rio, got one silver medal at the weightlifting in the Rio Paralympics Sept. 7-18. Enidte
