Egypt arrests four suspects over migrant boat sinking

Xinhua, September 22, 2016 Adjust font size:

Egyptian authorities on Thursday ordered the arrest of four crew members of a migrant boat that capsized Wednesday near Egypt's northern coast in which 42 migrants died, state-run MENA news agency reported.

The four were accused of human trafficking and involvement in illegal migration.

Prosecutors in Egypt's coastal Beheira province have also ordered the arrest of five others suspected of being involved in the boat accident.

The migrant boat, which carried about 600 people and sank near Beheira, was supposedly heading for Italian shores.

Egyptian border guards have saved dozens of people from the boat. Rescue efforts are continuing. Endit
