Fijian Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has invited his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull to visit Fiji, the government-owned Fiji Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) said Thursday.

The two prime ministers met in New York, the United States in the morning while attending the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking to the FBC, Bainimarama described the meeting as excellent and said he has also invited Turnbull to be part of the Fiji Day celebrations in Sydney, Australia next month.

Bainimarama said he has personally thanked Turnbull and Australia, especially the Australian military for the assistance rendered after Tropical Cyclone Winston ravaged Fiji in February, among other efforts.

The two prime ministers also had discussions on regional economic cooperation, according to the FBC. Endit
