China eyes upgrade of entertainment industry

Xinhua, September 21, 2016 Adjust font size:

China will give support to the modernization of its entertainment industry, according to a guideline issued by the Ministry of Culture.

The circular said the development of entertainment industry has lagged behind the times in terms of management mode and service standards. There are regular unlawful activities, and a general failure to satisfy people's appetite for high-quality cultural and recreational activities.

The ministry listed several proposals to expand the country's range of recreational activities.

The entertainment industry should adhere to the principles of socialist core values and embody the spirit of Chinese culture, avoiding vulgar content, the circular said.

The industry should consider integrative development and be innovation driven, providing advanced services and products.

The circular also advocated more public services from the industry to improve its image and expand consumer groups.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, China's entertainment industry generated 3.62 trillion yuan (544 billion U.S. dollars) in the first half of 2016, up 7.9 percent year on year. Endi
