The following are highlights of leading Nigerian media outlets on Monday.

-- A failure to save for the rainy day as well as poor monetary and fiscal policies were partly responsible for the country's current recession, according to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele who disclosed this at an interactive session with media managers in Lagos at the weekend noted that a number of external factors, particularly the crash in global oil prices, also contributed to the nation's economic woes. (The Guardian)

-- The Nigerian Army has rescued 43 abducted persons and recovered 500 cows from fleeing Boko Haram militants in Mafa, Borno State.

Army spokesman, Colonel Sani Usman, said Sunday that the military operation took place earlier in the day after eight suspected Boko Haram militants abducted some cattle rearers and livestock at gunpoint at Dalakalari general area in Mafa Local Government Area. (Daily Trust) Endit
