Tokyo stocks open higher on bets Fed will not hike rate soon

Xinhua, September 16, 2016 Adjust font size:

Tokyo stocks rose form the bell on Friday as U.S. economic data missing expectations confirmed bets that the U.S. Federal Reserve will likely not hike its rate imminently.

As of 9:15 a.m, the 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average added 19.47 points, or 0.12 percent, from Thursday to 16,424.48.

The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, meanwhile, advanced 2.65 points, or 0.20 percent, to 1,303.76.
