The Israeli military said Thursday that it carried out several airstrikes on Gaza, in retaliation for a rocket from the strip that hit an open field inside Israel.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) Spokesperson's Unit confirmed that a fighter jet struck three "Hamas terror infrastructure targets" in the northern Gaza Strip.
Hamas is the Islamist organization which controls Gaza.
The Palestinian news agency, WAFA, reported that F-16 jets hit farmlands outside the city of Beit Lahia with two missiles. The bombing caused a fire at one of the fields and spread panic among civilians nearby.
The overnight air raids on the besieged Palestinian enclave followed a rocket from Gaza that hit an open field in southern Israel on Wednesday night. No injuries or damage were reported.
Rockets fired from Gaza regularly hit southern Israel but rarely cause any damage.
The recent strikes came just after Israeli warplanes hit targets in southern Syria in response to errant cross-border fire. Endit
