A New Zealand man has been jailed for five years for attempting to smuggle methamphetamine precursor drugs valued at 8 million NZ dollars (5.81 million U.S. dollars) from China, the New Zealand Customs service said Thursday.

Sarawood Aemort, 32, was sentenced at the Auckland District Court on Wednesday for importing more than 12 kilograms of pseudoephedrine and ephedrine. (New Zealand-Drugs)

LONDON -- The International Energy Agency (IEA) on Wednesday launched here its first detailed report of global energy investment, with China singled out for praise.

In the first detailed analysis of investment across the global energy system, the IEA reported that global energy investment fell by 8 percent in 2015, with a drop in oil and gas upstream spending outweighing continued robust investment in renewable energies, electricity networks and energy efficiency. MOSCOW -- Russia will complete its part of the bridge over the Heilongjiang river, which connects with China by mid 2018, Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov said on Wednesday.

VIENTIANE -- Construction of a historic railway linking Lao capital Vientiane to the Chinese border over a distance of 427 km is expected to begin in December this year, an official in charge said here Wednesday.
