Heat day record in the Netherlands

With a temperature of above 30 degrees Celsius, the hottest ever September 13 was measured on Tuesday in The Netherlands, weather bureau weeronline reported.

In De Bilt, in the province of Utrecht, the temperature rose to 31.2 degrees, breaking the daily record and recording the latest Dutch tropical day (above 30 degrees) in a calendar year ever. The former record on September 13 dated back to 1919, when it was 29.6 degrees. The official measurements in De Bilt started in 1901.

The warmest temperature ever recorded in September in De Bilt stayed out of reach. On Sept. 5, 1949 it became 32.6 degrees.

The heat of this week is exceptional for the Netherlands. Only three times before the temperature was above 30 degrees on a September day in De Bilt. That was on Sept. 3, 1919, and as mentioned on Sept. 5, 1949 and on Sept. 5, 2013. All days in the beginning of September. Now the month is almost halfway.

In Gilze-Rijen and Eindhoven in the province of North Brabant, the temperature amounted to 33.1 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, a heat record on September 13. The former day record was held by the southern city of Maastricht and dated back to 1947, when it was 31.9 degrees.

According to the weather forecasts, the temperature in the Netherlands remains high on Wednesday and Tuesday, with on Wednesday maybe another tropical temperature of above 30.0 degrees coming up. Starting on Friday, the temperature will drop. Endit
