Manchester City's Champions League game postponed

Xinhua, September 14, 2016 Adjust font size:

Manchester City's Champions League Group C match opener against German side Borussia Monchengladbach has been postponed after their Etihad Stadium was hit by heavy rain, thunder and lightning.

The match, due to start at eight BST, was announced to be abandoned 15 minutes before kick-off.

In a statement, City said localised flooding led to a decision being made on "safety and security grounds".

UEFA will decide on Tuesday night when the match will be played, the BBC said.

It reported that the goalmouth at one end was heavily waterlogged at one stage, while services were stopped on Manchester's tram network. Endit
