More cars set ablaze in Denmark despite arrest of suspect

More vehicles have been set on fire in the Danish capital of Copenhagen although the police have previously arrested a suspect, local media reported on Tuesday.

A BMW and a Volkswagen van were set on fire in the Copenhagen suburb of Glostrup in the early hours of Tuesday, according to the Danish newspaper The Copenhagen Post.

"We assume that this is arson and are looking for witnesses," Brian Munck from Copenhagen West Regional Police was quoted by the paper as saying, adding that an investigation into the case is under way.

The Glostrup car fires followed two similar incidents over the weekend. Early on Monday morning, eight cars in a carpark at a vehicle inspection center in Broendby were burned, and the same number of vehicles were set on fire in a carpark in Albertslund early on Sunday morning.

Copenhagen has been plagued by a spate of car arsons since late August, with more than 50 vehicles having been torched now.

Copenhagen police arrested on Aug. 24 a 21-year-old man, who was thought to be behind some of the fires.

Neighboring Sweden has also suffered from similar arson cases since July. Enditem
