BIMSTEC anti-drug trafficking group meets for capacity building

The 4th meeting of the BIMSTEC anti-drug trafficking group, hosted by Myanmar, focused on capacity building and technical assistance between the member countries, official media reported on Tuesday.

BIMSTEC, known as Bengal Initiative for Multi-sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation, groups Bangladesh, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal and Bhutan.

At the meeting held in Yangon on Monday, participants also reviewed the decisions made at the third meeting last year which also took place in Yangon.

The meeting was attended by representatives from the seven member countries as well as officials from the UN Office on Drug and Crime and the BIMSTEC Secretariat.

Law enforcement agencies of the member states of BIMSTEC have been closely cooperating in combating terrorism and transnational crimes including drug trafficking. Enditem
