LISBON -- Portuguese maritime police saved 54 refugees travelling in a boat in the Aegean sea on Saturday, the National Maritime Authority said in a statement on Monday.

JOHANNESBURG -- The South African government on Monday called on all stakeholders to work together to eradicate illegal mining in the country.

"One of our biggest tasks is to get to the syndicates behind these operations, as well as the markets they're supplying," Minister of Mineral Resources Zwane said.

WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon on Monday confirmed a U.S. airstrike on Aug. 30 that targetted Abu Muhammad Al-Adnani, the longtime Islamic State (IS) spokesman, was successful.

Calling Al-Adnani IS' chief propagandist, recruiter and architect of external operations, Pentagon spokesman Peter Cook said in a statement that the strike near Al Bab, Syria, was one in a series of strikes against IS leaders. (US-IS) Endi
