JSE closes lower on Monday dragged by global sentiments

The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) took a tumble to a four-week low on Monday, taking its cue from weaker global markets.

The all share index lost 1.02 percent to 52,802.00 points at close of session, the lowest since August 18.

Gold mining shares fell 2.57 percent, resources lost 1.95 percent, and financials declined by 1.46 percent. The Gold edged down 0.15 percent to sell at 1,324.69 U.S. dollars an ounce.

The South Africa rand was relatively unchanged against the major currencies by 5 pm local time, with a US dollar costing R14.41, a British pound costing R19.17 and a euro costing R16.19. Endit
