China to strengthen production safety supervision

Xinhua, September 13, 2016 Adjust font size:

China will strengthen supervision of production safety through a nationwide inspection on the implementation of the new production safety law that went into effect in 2014.

The inspection will primarily target the performance of duties in accordance with the law and supervision systems of the State Council and related departments, according to a statement released Monday by the inspection team of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee.

The overall situation for production safety is stable as Chinese authorities have placed more focus on the issue in past years.

The number of accidents and casualties saw drops of 8.8 percent and 5.3 percent, respectively, in the first half of this year compared with the same period last year, but potential risks still remain, according to the statement.

Five teams will be sent to 10 provincial-level regions to inspect production safety from September to October, and they will report the inspection results to the NPC Standing Committee in December.

Other regions either have already been inspected or will be covered by local legislatures under the designation of the NPC Standing Committee, it added. Endi
