European sprint champion Hortelano in serious car accident

Xinhua, September 6, 2016 Adjust font size:

Top Spanish athlete Bruno Hortelano was in a "serious" condition and needed an operation on a badly broken hand after suffering a car crash in the early hours of Monday morning.

The sprinter, who was crowned European 200 meters champion this summer and who holds the Spanish 100 and 200 meters records, was involved in the accident when the car in which he was traveling as a passenger crashed into a lorry and turned over.

Although he and the driver were able to escape the vehicle, Hortelano suffered what emergency services described as "catastrophic" injuries to his right hand including fractures and tendon damage.

Hortelano's agent Alberto Armas confirmed the accident, adding that the sprinter was "out of danger" and that the "main worry was the damage suffered to his hand," while stressing that it would not need amputating. Enditem
