Xinhua, September 3, 2016 Adjust font size:

The family of the Portugal's teenager who was left in coma following an assault by the Iraqi ambassador's twin sons, is to claim compensation, local media reported on Friday.

Ruben Cavaco's family will claim compensation from Iraqi ambassador Saad Mohammed Ridha once they know the extent of the damage caused to the teenage.

The 17-year-old twins, Haider and Ridha Ali, were accused of attacking 15-year-old Cavaco in Ponte de Sor around 180 km northeast of Lisbon on August 17.

Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs asked Iraq to lift diplomatic immunity from its ambassadors' sons on August 25 and is still awaiting a decision by the authorities.

On Friday, the Portuguese ministry of foreign affairs said in a statement that following the plea for the twins to have diplomatic immunity lifted, several proceedings have been undertaken to call for an urgent answer by the Iraqi authorities.

The note added that a meeting between the foreign ministers of Portugal and Iraq will take place in New York, during the ministerial week of the UN general assembly between Sept. 19 and 23.

According to local media, Cavaco is still in hospital and waiting to be heard by inspectors of the judicial police in the Santa Maria hospital in Lisbon. Endit
