Eurozone inflation remains weak at 0.2 pct in August

Xinhua, September 1, 2016 Adjust font size:

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be weak at 0.2 percent in August, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat on Wednesday, the statistical office of the European Union (EU).

The 0.2 percent inflation rate is unchanged from July and below analysts' forecasts of a slight increase. It's still far blow from the European Central Bank(ECB)'s inflation target of below but close to 2 percent.

The weak figure raised prospect of ECB action to announce more stimulus for the sluggish eurozone economy when the governing council meets next week.

Separate data released by Eurostat on Wednesday showed the unemployment rate remained at 10.1 percent in July, slightly higher than what analysts had predicted. Endit
