Spain's home mortgages increase by 15.5 pct in June

The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 15.5 percent in June when compared with the same month of a year earlier, according to data released on Wednesday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).

A total of 25,274 home mortgages were granted to prospective buyers in June, with an average value of 112,516 euros (125,469 U.S. dollars), which meant a 7.5 percent increase year-on-year, and the amount of capital loaned increased by 24.2 percent to more than 2.843 billion euros.

According to the data, Spain's home mortgages have been rising for 25 consecutive months on a year-on-year basis.

On a month-to-month basis, the number of home mortgages fell by 4.9 percent, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 2.4 percent and the average value per mortgage rising by 7.7 percent.

The INE also reported that in the first semester of the year, the number of home mortgages rose by 19 percent, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 21.9 percent and the average value per mortgage increasing by 2.5 percent, when compared with the same period of a year earlier.
