The UN Information Center (UNIC) in Beirut and Design Pillars, a company for public, corporate and private events, launched the first family fun festival in Lebanon on Friday.

Lebanon's Tourism Minister Michel Pharaon at a press conference praised the work done by civil society, non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and the UN to promote tourism in Lebanon.

"Whenever the violence in the region increases and political unrest occurs in Lebanon, we see these groups exerting efforts to save the Lebanese civilization, culture and heritage," the tourism minister said.

He said the festival aims to raise the awareness of the importance of family bonds, the establishment of sustainable and healthy environment and increase knowledge about social and economic elements that affect families.

The festival came on the occasion of the International Day of Families proclaimed by the UN General Assembly. Endit
