Pakistan to host regional summit on Nov. 9-10

Pakistan will host a two-day regional summit in Islamabad on Nov. 9-10, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.

Pakistan has invited the leaders of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) member states to grace the summit with their presence and is looking forward to welcome them at Islamabad, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

SAARC groups Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Nepal, the Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

Nine observers of SAARC have also been invited to attend the 19th Summit.

A SAARC Summit Cell was opened at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday in order to give impetus to the process of preparations. Foreign Secretary Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry inaugurated the cell.

The SAARC Summit Cell is headed by Ambassador Amjad Sial, who is a senior diplomat and nominee of the government of Pakistan as the next Secretary General of SAARC.

The SAARC Summit Cell will closely work with all stakeholders and concerned authorities in Pakistan. It will also liaise with the member states, SAARC observers and the SAARC Secretariat for organization of the Summit. Endit
