Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos will sign the final peace deal with the FARC guerrilla prior to the Oct. 2 plebiscite where the Colombian people will decide whether to approve the agreement or not, government negotiators said Thursday.

Humberto de la Calle, Colombia's top negotiator, told a press conference that both sides had not decided the date and place where the deal will be signed. (Colombia-FARC)

BRASILIA -- The Brazilian Senate began Thursday the impeachment trial of suspended president Dilma Rousseff.

Rousseff was accused of seeking to hide public budget deficits through fiscal irregularities, such as delaying loan payments to public banks and ordering additional loans without congressional approval.(Brasil-Impeachment)

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Thursday that the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) agreement will not get a vote in Senate this year.

"The current agreement, the Trans-Pacific (Partnership), which has some serious flaws, will not be acted upon this year," McConnell said at the annual Kentucky State Farm Bureau Ham Breakfast. (US-TPP)

DAMASCUS -- Nearly 5,000 people, including armed rebels, are set to evacuate the besieged town of Daraya west of the capital Damascus on Friday, after a deal concluded recently between the opposition forces and the Syrian army, local media said Thursday.

Over 4,000 civilians will be evacuated to displacement shelters in government-controlled areas, while 700 rebels will hand over their heavy and medium weapons which will be transferred to the northwestern province of Idlib, a stronghold for the rebels' Jaish al-Fateh, or the Army of Conquest, state news agency SANA reported.
