Feeling unsafe in Mexico City? There's an app for that

Mexico City has unveiled a smartphone application designed to make women feel safer by making it easier to report crimes, as well as potentially dangerous situations.
According to an official Twitter post, "Women can report sexual harassment and unsafe areas" using the app called "Live Safe CDMX," which is the local government's shorthand for Ciudad de Mexico, or Mexico City.
In announcing the new app on Wednesday, Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said, "it is going to allow you to tell us where the unsafe places are, (places) with no street lighting, where the trails are dangerous, where ... most assaults of all types take place."
The app for Android phones connects users directly to the city's emergency 066 hotline, while the phone's built-in GPS system notifies authorities of a victim or potential victim's exact location.
That feature will reportedly reduce the emergency response time by 90 percent.
The app is the newest of several safety apps the city offers, including one called "MyPolice." Endit
